Surrender to the flow.

I was recently asked if I believed in luck. Synchronicity yes, luck no. We can influence our destiny by being prepared so when an opportunity arrives we are open and ready to receive it. With positive intentions and practice, we can manifest meaningful coincidences. The more aware we become of how we manifest, that is when we get clear, the higher the frequency of the synchronicities of what we attract in our life.

So what happens when something bad happens? It is simply our perception of the situation based on expectations. At that moment we are obviously attached to an outcome that it isn’t and we are disappointed. However, an energetic shift is needed for the next something, be it good or bad, to come. Why? Because change is inevitable. How we perceive and prepare for it isn’t. Surrender to the flow yogis, Namaste.

Hello retrograde…this month has five retrograde planets, yes I said five: Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Pluto. While the new beginnings of the Spring season arrive with enthusiasm, this retrograde movement in April will delay any firm rooting. Retrogrades have a funny way of stirring up the past, creating a wrinkle in time that allows us to retrace our steps, reflect, and offer us the most opportunity for soul growth. So be sure to give situations additional thought, care, and consideration.

Mercury goes retrograde on April 9th. The Mercury Retrograde period is an excellent time for deepening our trust and connecting with our intuition. Allow additional travel time, exercise patience with yourself and others, take care of your technology and triple check details before signing on the dotted line. In the midst of all this rerun flashback, I am really excited to offer La Luna Alchemy’s Mercury Retrograde Elixir to help neutralize or prevent potential negative effects of this 3-week period. This elixir supports us to relax and shift into an “intuitive” perspective more easily to help resolve disruptions that bubble up during this time.

Saturn goes retrograde tonight so it’s a good opportunity for us to think about the things in our lives that led us to where we are in our relationships and our jobs. We can take this occasion to go over any steps we need to take to rebuild our career or see where aspects need reworking, remodeling or reviewing.

Jupiter retrograde requires introspection and an awareness that inner growth is necessary for our hopes and dreams to materialize as personality traits and behaviors that require extra development will be illuminated. Even if we are traveling on the right path at this stage, we will be reminded how important it is to be happy and content with what we have.

Venus retrograde is one of the most significant astrological transits because it only happens once every 18 months. This is a time to heal the wounds of our heart, to let go of past lovers and relationships, to let go of past hurts and blockages, and to open ourselves to a deeper love. It is also a great opportunity to tap into our intuition and to really listen and follow through on our gut feelings.

While Pluto is retrograde we should be ready to let a piece of our personality, a piece of our life, or someone in our life give way or go in order for things to be changed and made new. It is a useful time to do a body cleanse and wash away the pollution inside our bodies or do a cleansing of our environment.  On Earth Day this month, I am offering a total body cleanse symposium which will discuss bodycare, a detox yoga flow and explore our relationship to the foods we eat for a more optimal state of health, well-being, and clarity of mind. For more details and to register go to Renew & Restore: A Conscious Cleanse. Take this extraordinary month to open to the marvelous possibilities of the cosmos and delve deeper into your true Self. Shine on yogis, Namaste.

Pi day

I really enjoy baking, especially pie on Pi Day! And there’s nothing better than one made with a crust from scratch. It’s really not that difficult, just takes a little more time however it truly makes all the difference. I use half butter and half Crisco in my pie crust…I know it’s not my favorite ingredient but an all butter crust isn’t as flaky. One of my all time favorite pies is Grape Apple Pie because…well…it’s just genius…like Phish.

pi day

Pie crust:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening (aka Crisco)
  • 5-6 tablespoons ice-cold water
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten

  • 3 pounds of apples
  • 1 pound of grapes
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cut into small bits
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Mix together the flour and salt.
  3. Cut the cold butter pieces and vegetable shortening into the dry mixture using only your hands, slowly adding the water, a bit at a time, until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Divide the dough into half, rolling out each half into a flat circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Place one rolled-out circle in the bottom of the pie dish.
  6. Peel and core the apples and slice them about 1/4 inch thick. Cut grapes in half.
  7. In a large bowl toss apples and grapes with sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and vanilla.
  8. Fill the pie with this mixture and dot with butter.
  9. Cover loosely with the top crust, crimping the edges. Use a fork or tip of a knife to make several vents in the top crust.
  10. Lightly brush the top crust with the beaten egg white.
  11. Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour or until golden brown. Serve while still warm topped with vanilla ice cream. ENJOY!

Devotion. First thing that comes to mind is love. Then loyalty. And ultimately my golden retriever…a love sponge in an orange jumpsuit. The immediate feeling elicits a slow build intensity in the heart center that eventually bursts open like a piece of FreshenUp gum and all that is desired is to vibrate in that heart space. It is similar to the feeling I have while surfing or snowboarding or chanting. The heart just wants to reach out and hug everybody.  A blissful state of complete contentment and connection to everything.

Devotion excites me in no other way. This single-minded focus, selfless and seated in the present moment. Take for example an infant playing peek-a-boo. The child is completely absorbed in the moment despite where the adult is. What the child perceives at each instant fluctuates from a state of curiosity when the adult is out of view and immediate joy when the face is revealed. The adult is always there just as the Divine is. It is merely the illusions of the mind that prevents us from seeing and experiencing it continuously. Imagine if we were able to reside in this state indefinitely, like a golden retriever, loving everyone every moment every day. Surrendering to the universe and falling in love with Love. Be a conduit for Love. Vibrating with love and light.  Pulsating with love and light. Devotion to a dream yogis, Namaste.
